Racing commenced in Moruya around 1870. For many years racing took place at the "old" Moruya Racecourse virtually in the centre of town where the Showgrounds and Golf Course are now situated.
In 1985 the new Racecourse was opened at North Head on the other side of George Bass Drive to the airport.
In 1987 the Moruya Jockey Club Ltd was incorporated as a Public Company under Articles of Association which remain in place today.
The Club is managed by a group of 10 Volunteer Directors.
The Racecourse is the property of the Eurobodalla Shire Council and is leased by the MJC to hold race meetings and facilitate racehorse training at the track. The MJC is responsible for the operation of the facility and its maintenance and upkeep.
The directors of the MJC form a committee which meets monthly and is headed by a President and two Vice Presidents. The Club has approximately 250 members. See Membership if you are interested in joining the club.
